Available Cultures

Hi everyone- I am sad to say that I am not currently sending out cultures.  My pregnancy that started in 2016 gave me an unfortunate aversion to all things fermented, and I let my SCOBY crops go.  (Notice I haven’t updated the blog in a while).  One great source of starters is if you go to the facebook group Kombucha Nation.  A fair amount of people on there are probably still even fermenting from some generation of starters that I sent out!

It seems that since I started this blog, there is a great interest in my Jun SCOBY, as they are relatively difficult to come across.  I am happy to send out my extra cultures when I have them available.  If you are interested in any of the following cultures, you can email me at  brooklynalewife@gmail.com

Jun

Kombucha

Tibicos

I ask people for $10 to cover shipping and production costs, and $20 if you live internationally.  I also love bartering!  I have traded my SCOBY for homemade chocolate, honey from home hives, wild harvested chaga mushrooms, villi yogurt culture, sourdough starter and bread, a cider vinegar mother, etc.

My SCOBY has gone all over the world, more places than I!   Where my SCOBY has travelled:

Hi Wyatt, I ask for $10 to cover shipping costs…. Some people have worked out barters with me too. If you want to talk more about it, email me at brooklynalewife@gmail.com.

Hello! I am interested in a Jun SCOBY if you have one to share 🙂 I have been brewing kombucha for about a year and am excited to try Jun. Unfortunately, it does not seem nearly as common as the ‘booch. If you are able to share a culture, it will in turn be shared many times within my group of fellow fermenters here in Chattanooga and middle Tennessee. I look forward to hearing from you 🙂 -Amanda

    Hello,
I would really love to get a jun culture from you! I tried emailing you but the email address would not work. Can you let me know if you have a new email address? thanks. I can pay for shipping. Happy fermenting!

Hi Corinna, I’m surprised that the email address didn’t work for you. It should. You can try delerie@me.com, which is a more private email. If you send me your address, I can send you a jun. I charge folks $10 to pay for costs, but I also accept barters if that appeals to you.

hi there i’m from NZ & trying to source jun cultures for a group of fermenting freaks here. just wondering how we can get some?

      • Adele May 11, 2014 at 11:12 pm #

        Hi Kellie,

Email me at brooklynalewife@gmail.com. For international shipments, I generally charge $20 per scoby. Have never shipped to NZ, so if the rates are really high I might have to charge more just to cover that cost, but I expect $20 should cover it…. I usually paypal invoice folks for the cost, and the only thing else I need is your mailing address.

I love seeing my chocolate on your list!!! 😍 I believe my mom and I have both killed our Jun cultures at the same time… 😦 After keeping them going for maybe 8 years? I’m so glad you still have yours!! As soon as I order more cacao — I will be hitting you up for a new Jun baby. 😉 I was planning on making a batch of chocolate at LEAST in time for Valentines Day.

      Hi Joy!

I’m actually not fermenting currently– haven’t been on this blog in about three years since I got pregnant with my son- and lost all taste for fermented things, ironically! So yeah, my scoby supply has gone to the compost. I guess I’d better update my sharing page. Too bad- that chocolate was amazing =-)

Well… I TOTALLY understand! There are things I can no longer eat too. Good news though!! My mom’s SCOBY that she told me was dead, was not. It has produced 2 more babies since she gave it to me for attempted resurrection a couple weeks ago. 🙂 I’m sure if you ever feel draw to get back to fermented things, you will also be able to find babies of your babies out in the world.
